> I have always been among those who believed that the greatest freedom of speech was the greatest safety, because if a man is a fool, the best thing to do is to encourage him to advertise the fact by speaking. … So it is by the exposure of folly that it is defeated; not by the seclusion of folly.

*— Woodrow Wilson, The Public Papers of Woodrow Wilson, vol. 5, p. 484 (1927)*

## bin.md believes in **free speech** and **privacy**.

Those two things are not in tension — they are the same commitment, viewed from two sides. Free speech means you get to say it. Privacy means no one gets to force you to say it, and no one gets to rifle through what you said to someone else.

We host what you write. We don't police it, mine it, or monetize it. We don't ask why. We don't sell your words, your identity, or the shape of your thinking to anyone.

Speak plainly. Speak strangely. Speak unpopularly. Speak carefully or carelessly. Just speak — and let the world sort it out.

## We're a tool, not a pulpit

bin.md is a tool. The opinions, beliefs, arguments, and half-formed thoughts published on it belong to the people who wrote them — not to bin.md as an organization. Content on this platform is not an endorsement by us, and we don't ask it to align with what we happen to think.

That cuts both ways. Our own beliefs — including this page — are just as open to challenge, disagreement, and revision as anyone else's. We'd rather be argued with than agreed with out of politeness.

These commitments aren't just posture. They're backed by our [[:termos|Terms of Service]] and our [[:privvy|Privacy Policy]], which spell out what we will and won't do with your words, your identity, and your data.

## Within the law

Free speech is not lawlessness. bin.md operates within the law and complies with lawful requests from proper authorities. We don't invent our own moderation regime, but we also don't pretend the law doesn't exist. Where the two meet, the law wins — and we'll be transparent about it when it does.
